What's new, what works, and what to try this season in interior decorating.

Whimsical comeback

Furniture trends, much like fashion, follow cyclical patterns, with styles fading in and out, only to resurface with a contemporary twist. An example of this phenomenon is bobbin furniture, an ornate 17th-century decorative technique that has recently made a resurgence in modern furniture design. Named after the lathe-turned detailing found on chair, stool, and table legs, this style has a rich history dating back to AD 500, with excavations revealing its presence in handmade wooden bowls and cups from shipwrecks and burial sites. In its modern reinterpretation, bobbin furniture introduces curves, softening spaces and infusing them with energy and movement. Like vintage or antique pieces, it adds an element of the unusual, creating a homely atmosphere over a showroom aesthetic.

Raw beauty

French designer Christophe Delcourt orchestrated a complete rearrangement of Avenue Road's Miami residence to unveil his 'Woodlane' collection in collaboration with the boutique furniture producer. The showcase seamlessly blended new designs with pieces from Delcourt's existing catalog, adorning nearly every room. The juxtaposition of organic contours and roughly hewn textures against Avenue Road's pristine art deco setting showcased a sophisticated and restrained aesthetic.

Embracing art

Effortlessly cool since its inception in 1973, Ligne Roset’s Togo sofa celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking the occasion with a limited edition Pierre Frey fabric featuring a design by Heather Chontos. The dramatic, artsy statement you didn’t know your interior needed.

Sweet history

Trudon, the world's oldest operating candlemaker, celebrates its 380-year history with the Tuileries collection, inspired by French history. The scent pays homage to Marie Antoinette's favorite flower, rose, skillfully blended with patchouli, raspberry, and a hint of vanilla. Trudon's enduring tales, from supplying candles to King Louis XVI to surviving the French Revolution, continue to fuel its poetic resurgence.

Chic refuge after a day on the slopes

Giampiero Tagliaferri has designed Aspen’s first Sant Ambroeus, mixing together the Italian flair of the cool Milanese coffee spot with the mountain-chic vibes of the iconic ski destination. Picture vintage Italian gems like Mario Bellini's Le Bambole sofas and 1950s Carlo Ratti chairs against Aspen's scenic backdrop. The place rocks concrete counters, flagstone floors, and cozy touches of walnut wood and Verde Alpi marble. The perfect place for anything from a morning espresso to a post-slope Martini Affogato.

Objects of desire

Synonymous with luxury, marble has been a constant source of inspiration since antiquity. From the Acropolis to the Palace of Versailles, passing through Hagia Sophia and the Taj Mahal, marble has a lasting presence (although it's actually quite fragile). Verena Brausch is passionate about this 'resplendent stone,' as the Greeks called it. Her collection 'Eternel sans temps' aims to give marble an unexpected lightness. To achieve this, she combines it with metal and wood, but also focuses on innovative forms, drawing from her experience in the automotive industry—having notably collaborated with Mercedes-Benz. With her, marble becomes streamlined and aerodynamic. Not only do her tables and benches hold their own, but they are also remarkably airy. A 100% contemporary approach with occasional nods to science fiction and space capsules.

For the fashion-forward dog owner….

… seeking both style and comfort for their furry pal, the collection collaboratively designed by Kanto and Kvadrat offers the ideal blend. You have two chic options to choose from—Luoto, a circular haven for long naps, and Oksa, a traditional design perfect for extended lounging. Upholstered in sustainable deadstock fabrics, these beds prioritize eco-friendliness and safety for dogs with allergies. Tested for durability, they withstand playful pups with a Martindale test score of 45,000 or more. In neutral and warm tones, from olive green to navy blue, these beds effortlessly elevate any interior, ensuring your dog's comfort aligns with your home's aesthetic.

Staying power

Opened in 2022, Passalacqua has been crowned The World’s Best Hotel after only one year of existence and we can understand why. A privately owned villa since 1787, the 24-room hotel - the latest jewel of Lake Como - is ringed by lush terraced gardens, olive groves and a glistening lake. Other standouts include the La Double J-designed pool housed in a 200-year-old greenhouse decorated with florals and Rajasthani-esque parasols; the grand Bellini suite with Albertolli frescoes, a two-storey music room and Murano chandeliers; a gym in the olive grove with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment; and handsome staff who welcome you as if you are one of the family.
